Christopher Jordan Tyson Associate Professor
Professor of Law and candidate for Louisiana Secretary of State

I am most proud of being a husband and father to my three beautiful children. I grew up in a nurturing family under the guidance of a strong marriage. My family is the most important priority in my life and I am thankful to be able to experience their love.

Christopher Jordan Tyson is the Newman Trowbridge Distinguished Associate Professor of Law at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University. He is also running to be Louisiana’s next Secretary of State.

As a Professor, his teaching focuses on the areas of local government law, real estate and urban development. Tyson is an experienced public speaker and has addressed high school, collegiate and professional audiences on a variety of topics.

Tyson is a former congressional staffer for U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu. During post-Katrina recovery efforts, he assisted the Senator in tracking Katrina-related legislation in the U.S. Senate.

From 2007-2009 Tyson was a Board Member for the Capital Area Transit System, Baton Rouge’s transit agency. In 2009 he served as Board Chair.

Tyson is a former Board Member and mentor with Baton Rouge’s Big Buddy Program and currently is the Board President for the Baton Rouge Youth Coalition. He has spent the past 20 years mentoring young men at various stages of life. For two years he served as a prison educator and taught a class at Boston’s Suffolk County Prison. Tyson serves on the New Leaders Council's Board of Advisors and is an active member on the Board of Directors of Metromorphosis, an organization dedicated to impacting inner city neighborhoods in Baton Rouge.

"I try never to take myself or others too seriously. I always find the humor in everything. I strive to never waste anyone's time, for it is the one thing we can never get back. I believe in living your life in service to others and that the relative lack of suffering I experience in my day to day life obligates me to tend to the suffering of others. Finally, I keep God first and nurture my circle of friends and family - I see God in each of them, " says Tyson.
