I think the foundation is my biggest accomplishment. I think when people start to recognize you more for community service than for the other things, it kind of puts everything in perspective.
Ryan Cameron – affectionately known as "The Ryan King", Ryan Cameron is king of the Atlanta airways. For two decades, Cameron has made entertaining the citizens of the largest city in the southeast look easy. The Ryan Cameron Morning Show has become notorious for its ability to turn much-dreaded morning commutes into hilarious, enduring trips down memory lane.
The Atlanta legend has worked his way up from humble beginnings as an intern, to one of the most respected professionals in the radio broadcasting industry. Having earned two Emmy Awards, two Marconi nominations and a host of other accolades and achievements, Cameron has become an essential part of the Atlanta entertainment scene and a beloved community leader. This past November, Cameron had the distinguished honor of being inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame.
In 2005, CBS executive Rick Caffey gave Cameron the opportunity to create an afternoon show on Atlanta's V-103 (WVEE). After nine years of working on various shows with Radio One—including working mornings at WKYS in Washington, DC—Cameron seized the opportunity to produce an original afternoon show that had a morning show feel. It was then Cameron coined the portmanteau word “edutainment”. Cameron believes it is his obligation to not only entertain, but also educate his audience on issues that concern the community.
In addition to his work on the radio, Cameron's resume includes actor, comedian and television talk show host. He is also the official public address announcer for the Atlanta Hawks.
Cameron and his wife Kysha co-founded the Ryan Cameron Foundation (RCF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, in 2002 (though the makings of the organization date back to 1990). RCF's mission is to provide resources and programs that encourage positive, transitional growth for Atlanta’s youth. Together, the couple has been a part of a number of public service and charitable initiatives, including the annual Ryan Cameron Foundation golf classic, Thanksgiving community bowling fundraising, the Youth Anti-Violence Contest & Forum, Youth Golf Clinic, Father-Daughter Dance, Youth Health Fair, and Holiday Giving Program. 100% of the proceeds from each event go to supporting post-secondary education opportunities for young adults.
Inspired by their three children—Ryan Megan, Kai, and Cayden— the Cameron's established the Ryan Cameron Foundation Leadership Academy (RCF-LA), which focuses on academic development and life skills.
